All Byron Jay LewisWhen Byron Jay Lewis greets you, you feel sure there is a big celebration going on in the room behind him, and he’s so glad you were able to join the party. His enthusiasm for life and all the people and things in it is his leading characteristic. It’s as if everything is fresh and new in his eyes.

Raised in Houston and educated at The University of Texas at Austin and The University of Houston Law School, Byron chose Edinburg as his permanent home in 1986. He and Keely, his wife of 30 years, have two children.

He started with Edwards in 1999 and took over the reins from Jesse Hedrick in 2001, running it with the same love and care as his mentor. “I want to structure the company so that we play to everyone’s strengths,” he said.

Byron is Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Commercial and Residential Real Estate Law and is one of the few title insurance company owners recognized as a Certified Title Insurance Associate (CTIA).

A glance around Edinburg tells the tale of Byron’s civic involvement. As president of the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce, he oversaw the renovation of the Edinburg Depot. He was a founder of the Leadership Edinburg program. He was instrumental in securing funding for the new state-of-the-art Edinburg Boys’ and Girls’ Club north of town. He heads up the Edinburg Foundation, which secures land and money for worthwhile organizations, including the new PAWS no-kill animal shelter. He was named to the RGV Walk of Fame in 2015 and recognized as Edinburg’s 2015 Man of the Year.

Anyone who has visited the Edwards headquarters building in Edinburg knows of another of Byron’s passions ― collecting art. The paintings and sculptures throughout Edwards’ two stories make this title company a veritable art museum. People sometimes come for a closing and stay for a tour. And Byron is happy to give one.

He’s also happy to rescue a Texas tortoise or stray dog or cat whenever they cross his path, his big heart giving them a new lease on life.

He uses that same thoughtfulness and generosity of spirit in running Edwards Abstract. He genuinely cares about his employees and their families. And those who bring their business to his door know they’ll be taken good care of.
