Pamela Dougherty is a natural-born team player. On her way back to her office, she peeks in to introduce all her co-workers along the way, saying a little something nice about each one.

As the Weslaco Market Manager at Edwards Abstract and Title Co., she does sales but is also a licensed closer and does abstracting as well, able to help out in every department. “Whatever they throw at me, I’ll handle,” she said with smile.

After all, she’s been in the title business for 33 years. She started at a mortgage company but found her true calling at a title company. “I love it because it’s challenging,” she said. “Every day I feel like Sherlock Holmes and Watson. We all have the same goal of buying a home or property. It’s the American dream. But there are a lot of mysteries along the way, and history. Oh, so much history! That part intrigues me,” said Pam of her job duties.

Behind the paperwork Pam finds hidden treasures. “Challenges come up and unfinished business is left behind, and there are stories. People mean well and want to leave their property to their kids but if their papers aren’t in order, it becomes complicated.” She says those are the fun things because every story is different, but they’re all working to get back to the same thing—a clean title. “We’re very private—we would never discuss the personal details of a title but searching for the answers sharpens your wits.”

In her free time, she enjoys music and being with her children and grandchildren. She and her husband also volunteer for too many non-profit organizations to list. “The purpose of volunteering is to keep you grounded and humble,” she said. “It’s like church. Helping people is where it’s at.”

That love of helping people drives her success at Edwards. “The beauty of this company is that the owners give us the opportunities, the liberties, and the creative tools to do what we do at our best,” she said. “137 years in the business speaks for itself.”
